BSA advancement follows four steps ensuring Scouts genuinely learn and demonstrate each skill before receiving credit.
The Four Steps
1. A Scout Learns
Skills are taught at meetings, campouts, and merit badge classes in a hands-on environment.
2. A Scout Is Tested
The Scout demonstrates the skill to a qualified leader, who signs off on the requirement.
3. A Scout Is Reviewed
A Scoutmaster conference allows the Scout to discuss his experience and goals before each rank.
4. A Scout Is Recognized
A board of review confirms all requirements are met. Awards are presented at a court of honor.
Courts of Honor
Troop 31 holds Courts of Honor several times per year to formally recognize advancements and merit badges. Families are encouraged to attend these meaningful ceremonies.
