Service hours are required for several BSA ranks and merit badges. Proper documentation ensures you receive credit and helps the troop track its community impact.
What to Record
- Date and location of the service activity
- Organization served (name of the nonprofit, church, school, etc.)
- Description of service performed — be specific
- Hours worked (do not round up)
- Supervisor signature when possible
Tips for a Strong Write-up
- Describe specifically what you did, not just where you were
- Explain the impact your service had on the community or organization
- Keep it honest — accurately represent what you accomplished
Submitting Hours
Record all service hours in your Scout handbook and report them to your Scoutmaster. For Eagle Scout projects, a detailed project workbook must also be completed.
